Is it possible to determine gender of baby using sonography test at 8 weeks and 1 day pregnancy. Doctor never told me but I saw in the report that breech was female.

Answer:

Hi Deepak,

It is impossible to tell a baby's gender by ultrasound at 8 weeks pregnant. And at that point, position (breech), doesn't matter either. The baby is tiny and moving constantly.

The most accurate gender prediction ultrasounds are from around 17 weeks to 21 weeks or so. 2D ultrasounds are best for gender prediction.

Sometimes a 15 or 16 week ultrasound will give a clear gender shot, and scans done after 21-22 weeks can also show gender. It's rare, however, for an earlier scan to give any indication.

Sometimes techs will guess based on "nubs" at the 12-week nuchal scan, but these are just good guesses and are often wrong.

The only way to know gender at 8 weeks is to either have sampled the embryos before an IVF procedure, or to have the CVS test performed (somewhat similar to an amniocentesis).
