Just What Does a Mother Think About?
February 11, 2010

So just what does the mother of a baby think about? It seems the answer to that question is eating and sleeping - specifically how to get baby to do those things! This week saw yet more questions on nursing, eating, and sleeping topics, so check those out below.

My update on Galen got a couple of good questions on boosting milk supply and what kind of blenders are good for making baby food. I weighed in with my thoughts, and shared which tea I'm using for my milk supply - please feel free to share your thoughts and advice!

Galen had his weight check and we were thrilled to find out he's gained a pound and a half! That's a huge step forward for Galen and it confirms for me that sticking to our beliefs on the best foods and parenting while working with the feeding clinic is making a difference.

As he started eating more, Galen's daily routine changed a lot, and his elimination patterns changed as well. I think this daytime change resulted in a nighttime upset and Galen started having trouble getting to sleep again. I went back to the basics to help him form good sleep habits again - making sure I stuck to his nighttime routine and staying close to him. He's now back to going to sleep easily at night. He's also added a new twist in that he's sleeping through most of the night (he tends to wake around 5am.) This is very nice for me!

I wanted to share that he had a little bit of "backtracking" and how taking several nights to work on his routine and sleeping patterns again really helped get him back to where he was - so much happens in the lives of babies and toddlers and I think it's important to remember that sometimes things will change their sleeping patterns, their eating patterns - just about everything. It's important to remember to be patient and follow a good system to help them through challenging times.
