Tiger Lily, Issue #018 - Prenatal Interventions, Birthright Review, Facts about Fat July 27, 2009 |
From the Editor: Wow, how is July almost gone?? Things have been so busy and I have a lot in the works - but not too much to show for it in articles! I am very excited this month to bring you a great guest article - it's excellent and I know you'll enjoy it. I did get the review of a childbirth curriculum done and I'm happy to share that with you. I'm in the process of doing a special report on this curriculum and a couple of others I've recommended on my site. This report will help you choose the one that's right for you. The kids and I have been out in the garden enjoying the fruits of our first tentative labors. Thus far we've gotten some small radishes, pretty spinach, and very nice butterhead and romaine lettuces. We have some melons peeking up and small tomatoes. Our summer has been quite cold thus far so I'm hoping that our tomatoes will make it. It's been quite the learning experience for me starting a garden. I'm just as fascinated as the kids are to see things growing! The children and I have been having a lot of fun. It's really great to be able to teach my own little ones about life and what I believe is important. I've enjoyed taking them shopping with me and out and about to see our beautiful area. Galen is almost always on my back in the baby carrier where he enjoys his vantage point! Our area also just had it's big annual festival - Cherry Festival - and we got to do so much that week, including parades :) Now the summer has slowed down a bit and I feel like I have so much I need to get done before I start lessons again in the fall! And we still have to fit a trip in next month ;) Ah well - life continues to move on at a quick pace, and we all just have to take the time to savor the little things - those quiet moments of holding your sleeping baby, times of laughing with your toddler at the park or on the natural trail. Times that will be gone so fast. ~Kristen Featured Articles The Risks of Medical Interventions During Pregnancy: My Story: Adriene Shulman of Tinyplayground.com has created this thought-provoking article for you. She includes plenty of information for further research, as well. Galen's 8 Month EC Update: Last month was a pretty good month for our part-time diapered hero, Galen :p Birth Stories: The birth stories submissions have been hopping and I've got a few more, including a lovely unassisted birth, listed for your enjoyment. I've gotten a little feedback on organizing the birth stories but I'd still love to hear more opinions - how do you think I should organize them to make them more easily accessible for you? Product Reviews A top 3 pick for sure - this month's review is The Birthright Curriculum - an excellent at-home study course with a great online backend. I was really impressed by this course. It's great for everybody, but I think it will really shine if you're planning a natural hospital birth. Take a look :D Book Reviews Yes, again, a lot more reading but not so much on birth and babies this month! I'm planning to bring you some book reviews next month ;)!
Featured Recipe This is not really a recipe - but it's food. In fact, it's fat! Yes, you need fat. It's especially important if you're trying to conceive, or if you're currently nursing. Having a "lowfat" diet can actually prevent you from conceiving. And having a diet rich in "good fats" can boost the richness of your breastmilk. So here's a post from one of my favorite bloggers, CheeseSlave: For more info on why fat is so important check out my pregnancy nutrition article series! Featured Links
