Am I Pregnant
by Kavitha
(Singapore)
Hi,
My name is Kavitha and am 28 years old. I've been married for 2 years. I have not gotten my period for 6 weeks (last period date 27th Dec 09).
I have done urine tests twice at home and the result was negative.
I consulted a gynecologist and he advised me to take the urine test again but the result was negative.
I want to if am not pregnant why have I missed my period for such a long time?
I took antibiotics for around 10 days in the month of January for an allergic bronchitis problem. Apart from that i do not have any other medical problems.
The doctor whom I visited today asked me to take pills for getting the period forcefully.
Please help me ...I want to continue the pregnancy if I have conceived.
Thanks.
Kavitha

Hi Kavitha,
You could be pregnant. It takes some women a long time to get a positive pregnancy test, and some never do get one.
Have you asked the doctor to do a blood test for you, or an ultrasound scan? These tests could probably diagnose a pregnancy for you.
I can understand your reluctance to take any pills to start your period when you think you may be pregnant.
I would advise you to ask your doctor for a blood test or, even better, an ultrasound scan to check for a pregnancy.
If these are not possible and you don't want to take the pills to bring on your period then don't! Just treat your body as if it were pregnant and take good care of yourself.
The most common cause for a delayed period is stress - stress can delay ovulation, which causes a late period. If you were sick in January it's possible your sickness delayed your ovulation, so your period is now late.
Periods can also be late or disappear altogether for issues such as poor nutrition, excess exercise, or major life stress. There are also fertility issues like PCOS and endometreosis that can interfere with your periods.
I would recommend that you focus on relaxing and eating very well. Get plenty of sleep and take good care of yourself. If you are pregnant, this will only benefit the baby. If you're not, this will help your body get back in balance.
If you have red raspberry leaf tea available to you, it is an excellent female tonic. It's safe for use during pregnancy, so it would be be good to drink if you are or are not pregnant.
Good luck to you Kavitha!
