Baby is Transverse

I am 22 weeks pregnant and my baby is laying transverse with her head by my belly button and her legs to my left side.

My concern is that I have a heart-shaped uterus therefore basically I only have half the uterus I'm supposed to have.

At about what week should she move to get in position to deliver and am i getting to far along for her to run out of room laying transverse?

Answer:

22 weeks is still very early for your little one, so I wouldn't worry yet. She has a lot of room to move around in there.

Babies generally move into a good position around the beginning of the third trimester - at 28 weeks or so. Some move head down a little earlier and some a little later. Most are in the head down position by around 32 weeks.

There are babies that turn around as late as 36 weeks or even during labor, but if your baby is transverse past 32 weeks or so I would recommend you talk to your doctor or midwife about the positioning.

You're still pretty early in your pregnancy to be positioning your baby, but sitting up straight (not lounging back in your chairs), walking, swimming, and yoga are all good ways to encourage your baby into a good position.

Around your third trimester you can start using some techniques to get your baby into a good position. I've outlined some here in a previous question: Transverse Lie.

Moms can and do have natural births even with a heart-shaped uterus. Make sure you're paying attention to your posture... and for now, try to relax and enjoy your pregnancy. Your little one has plenty of room to float around :)
