Baby Low in the Pelvis Second Trimester
I'm in my 17th week, and my ultrasound this week showed the baby's down low in my pelvis. Is this normal and when should she move up? This position makes it uncomfortable for me.
Should I be concerned or will she move up on her own?
Answer:
At this point in pregnancy babies tend to move all around. By about the beginning of the third trimester many babies settle into a head-down position and stay slightly out of the pelvis.
As the baby's birthday approaches she will begin to settle down into the pelvis. This is called "engaging" and usually happens about 2 weeks before you due date in your first pregnancy, and just before labor begins in subsequent pregnancies.
Your baby may move up and out of your pelvis, but chances are as she gets closer to her birthday you'll just notice her sitting there more and more!
If you're having intense downward pressure please call your doctor or midwife and let them know - sometimes this can be a sign of premature labor, though some downward pressure can be normal during pregnancy.
