The Baby Bonding Book for Dads

The Baby Bonding Book for Dads: Building a Closer Connection with Your Baby is a new book for - you guessed it - fathers. It's written by James di Properzio and Jennifer Margulis. Photographs are by Christopher Briscoe. I guarantee you'll want to pick this book up for your partner - and you'll want to savor the photographs for yourself!

Before you even get to the wealth of information contained in the book's text you'll find yourself taken by the book's appearance. It's a sturdy little hardback volume with stunning black and white photography. This is one "daddy" book you won't be embarrassed about leaving around the house for your man to pick up.

As I hinted at above, the book's content does not disappoint. There are sections covering most major situations new dads encounter - including carrying, diapering, bed time, book time, and one of di Properzio's personal favorites: baby wrestling ;)

These sections are short and sweet and always include those charming photographs, so your husband will be able to read through them quickly - something that seems to be essential in getting a man to read a parenting book! There's also lots of humor in it; I caught my husband laughing throughout his reading of The Baby Bonding Book for Dads.

The information in the book is very up-to-date and in line with the latest research on baby bonding. I know you've read just how important touch is to your baby, holding is to your baby, and the importance of just being with your baby. You're up to speed on how to tell if your baby is hungry, tired, overstimulated, or ready to interact with you. But maybe you're not so sure the father-to-be is. If you've got worries that his mother's antiquated (but well-meaning) advice is going to get in the way of baby bonding this is the book for him.

There is lots of practical advice on how he can hold and bond with his infant. It covers the importance of skin to skin touch and how to tell when baby is ready to interact (and when baby has had enough). There's plenty of information on carrying the baby and taking baby on outings. There's also information on baby eating and sleeping habits.

I was pleased to see that di Properzio gives good information for dads of breastfeeding babies. He gives practical advice for dads who have expressed breast milk to feed - and advice for those whose families have chosen not to use bottles. It was great to see sensible and truly helpful suggestions for dads no matter what infant feeding choices were made.

I'll admit I was charmed by The Baby Bonding Book for Dads the minute I picked it up - the high quality construction and gorgeous illustrations had me right away. But I was completely impressed by the time I got through it. A book that gets right to the point and is full of up-to-date information that real dads can use. I promise you, the Daddy, and your baby will be glad you picked this book up!
