Baby's Head is Straight Back in the Womb?

by Sandra
(Houston, TX)

My daughter is 33 weeks pregnant and the ultrasound yesterday said the baby's head is straight back like she's looking straight up. Is this a problem?

She has two placentas and there's not enough room.

Thank you.

Answer:

Hi Sandra,

At 33 weeks your daughter's baby probably has some time to adjust her position in the womb.

I think two placenta is not common, but it's also not unheard of. It's possible your daughter conceived twins and only one baby developed. I know there are women who deliver one baby and two placentas - they never even realized there was more than one placenta.

The womb has an ability to grow amazingly to accommodate the baby and placenta - including multiples and all of their placentas.

So I think your daughter's singleton will be ok, even with a little crowding from the second placenta.

I would encourage your daughter to take care with positioning, and encourage her baby to turn head down.

She may find my article on turning your breech baby helpful.

Good luck to her!
