Bleeding During Pregnancy

by Cindy G.
(Ocean City, MD USA)

I took a home pregnancy test 4 days ago and was so excited to see that we are going to have a baby!

The following day I went in to have a blood test done. I'll receive the results tomorrow afternoon from my Dr.

However, I started spotting 3 days ago, brownish in color. The spotting was mainly when I urinate.

However, this morning I saw some red blood (gooey in texture). And now I'm very worried and scared we may have lost the baby. I'm 38 years old, so I'm assuming mis carriages are more likely. I would appreciate any advice you could give.

Thank you,
Cindy

Hi Cindy,

Sometimes blood is normal during pregnancy, especially brownish, "old" blood. But bright red blood can also indicate miscarriage.

I recommend you take it easy - put your feet up and relax if possible.

You can also try a tea that helps prevent miscarriage. This recipe is from the late Jeannine Parvati Baker and it was very successful for her and many other midwives:

1oz Wild Yam
1oz Squaw Vine
1oz False Unicorn
1/2oz Cramp Bark

Simmer these herbs for 20 minutes in a quart of water. Fill a wineglass with the resulting tea/infusion and drink that amount every 4 hours until symptoms of miscarriage fade.

Best of luck to you Cindy!
