Hi Uzma,

Have your cycles been regular until now, or are they just starting back since your baby's birth?

If they are just starting back it's normal for them to be irregular. Some women go right back to a regular pattern. Other women have irregular cycles at first which then regulate.

After my first three babies my cycles became normal quickly. After my last baby Galen, however, my cycles were very long at first, gradually becoming more regular and finally "normal" for me.

However, if you've been having regular cycles and now this one is long, you may want to get a pregnancy test or have one done with your doctor or midwife. Even though you've been taking precautions against pregnancy, it's possible that you are pregnant.

One other consideration - has your little one started nursing a lot more lately? Even if your periods have returned, a baby going through a growth spurt (or teething) may start to increase the number of feeds or the amount of milk taken in at each feed. This can be enough to signal to your body to stop menstruation.
