Pocket diaper? Prefold? Cover? Plastic Pants? What do all these things mean?! And how did cloth diapers get so complicated? Don't worry - I promise you they're quite simple. You just need to wade through all the information out there to find out what you need.
Luckily there's Didees. Didees is a handy reference guide for any parent considering or using cloth diapers. The Complete Cloth Diaper book gives you all the information on different diapering systems and includes pictures. It's also a great resource for making your own cloth diapers.
Didees begins with an overview of why cloth deserves consideration then dives right into the meat - or should I say cloth - of the diapers. Author Adria Fuller covers all the different diapering systems available today and includes advantages and disadvantages of each.
Fuller includes pictures of each type of diaper and doublers in the back of the book. It would be nice if these were included with the descriptions but she has them clearly labeled for easy reference in the back.
A section on getting ready to cloth diaper will be very helpful to parents new to cloth diapering. It will help you decide how many diapers you need and what accessories you will want to go along with your diapers. Fuller also has step by step pictures on how to use a prefold diaper.
There is a great section on washing diapers - often a daunting task to parents. Fuller details both wet and dry pail methods so you can choose what works best for you.
One of the best features of Didees is the discussion of diaper fabrics (useful for both parents buying diapers and those making their own.) Fuller does a great job highlighting the different fabric options for both diapers and for covers. She also gives an overview of different notions needed for diaper making.
Didees comes with a book of patterns and the back of the Didees book has a step-by-step tutorial on diaper making - complete with pictures! I was impressed. The thought of making my own diapers seems much less daunting now.
Fuller also offers additional diapering tips and diaper making hints through her website and email list - a helpful service to the cloth diaper novice! Visit Didees today and pick up a copy!
