Extreme Period Pain

I don't usually have much period pain at all. I have been off the pill for a year now and my last period was a little over 5 weeks ago.

Yesterday and today I have had heavy bleeding and extreme cramping, stabbing pain that stopped me from doing anything.

Could this be a miscarriage? Or why has my period become totally different all of a sudden?

I just turned 28 (with no children) and use no birth control, so pregnancy is a possibility.

Answer:

It could be a miscarriage. You didn't say what length your cycles usually are, but if you're late for your period and are having a heavier period than usual, miscarriage is a possibility.

Anytime you have sharp, stabbing pains that don't go away you should seek a doctor's advice. Cramps from miscarriage can cause that, but it could also be other things, such as problems with the appendix or an ovarian cyst rupturing. Sometimes it's just muscle strain... but with heavy bleeding it's a good idea to get a doctor or midwife to give you some advice.

Otherwise, I would recommend you take it easy and just relax for a few days if at all possible. Give your body a chance to heal, then go ahead and make plans for what you'd like to do as far as trying to conceive or postponing a pregnancy!

Fibroid
by: Anonymous

I had similar periods and learned I had a fibroid. When you have a fibroid your body tries to get rid of it through uterine contractions, but because it is attached, causes incredible pain. You may consider a scan to see if this is the cause of your pain.
