Gas as an Early Sign of Pregnancy?

by Nicole

My question is: Can gas be an early sign or are swollen breasts the only early sign?

I've been trying to conceive for over 3 yrs now and was told that I would never conceive without the help of a Dr.

I did conceive on my own last year this time but miscarried at 12 weeks.

On Nov. 30 I started spotting about a dime size amount for 3 days then had what I thought was a normal flow but it only lasted for 2 days.

Last week I started having gas pains and some diarrhea, but now its only gas and lots of it with some abdominal cramping that's not normal.

I have taken 2 urine pregnancy test and both were negative, but when I was pregnant the last time I took 6 pregnancy test before I got a positive one.

Hi Nicole,

I have heard that gas can be an early sign of pregnancy.

Pregnancy begins to slow your digestive system down immediately and gas is an issue a lot of pregnant women face.

Your unusual spotting/bleeding are also a cause to wonder - some women do have spotting or even a short bleed early in pregnancy.

Some women also don't get a positive pregnancy test, or they don't get a positive test until they are several weeks into pregnancy. Some women also get very, very faint lines on their tests.

Have you thought about going to the doctor for a blood test to help ease your mind?

What urine tests have you tried? The First Response Early Response is a good test available at most drug stores - it's very sensitive and could be a good choice.

I'd recommend you keep taking a test every few days, using your first morning urine. And/or call the doctor for an appointment for a blood test, which is very sensitive.

The other option is to just relax and try and "wait and see" what happens in the next few weeks - but I know from experience that that can be very hard to do.

Best of luck to you and I hope you find something out soon.
