I Think I'm Pregnant Yet I Still Have My Peroid and Negative Test Results

Hello, my name is Kirsten and I am 18 years old. Lately I've been having some changes in my body that relates to a women being pregnant. For instance, my boobs have been extremely sensitive, like I can barely touch them or lean on them without them hurting or feeling tender. They started feeling this way about three weeks before my next period. I am due to have my next period on the 20th of September. They normally do not feel tender until two days before my period.

Also, I have had terrible mood swings. Last week I cried almost an entire day without a good excuse why. I could not control my self. There have also been a few days were I've just been short tempered for no reason and I am rarely ever like that unless I have a good excuse for it.

I used to be able to go to bed at around 1am without a problem but now I get really tired around 10 o'clock sometimes 9 o'clock. What really makes me think I am pregnant is that my stomach has stuck out more than usual, though it is not big. I am actually a petite girl, I am about 5'5" and weigh about 112 pounds. My stomach has always had a slight bump to it but lately its been sticking out more, and I have not been eating much unhealthy foods. I have though had a change in my appetite. I've gone from not eating much during the day for about a week or so to going to eating twice as much as what I would normally eat and then back again.

One day, I'm pretty sure I felt a slight movement in my stomach that I've never had before.

And it would not be unusual if I was pregnant because my boyfriend of 1 year and a half have had unprotected sex constantly. Although he does not go inside me and pulls out, I am not on birth control and he is not wearing a condom.

I have even had some breathing problems every once in awhile and had two bladder infections about 2 or 3 months ago. I have taken some pregnancy test but they've all come out negative. But I really think I'm pregnant. What do you think?? Help please.

Hi Kirsten,

Your symptoms sound like you could be pregnant, but the best way to tell is with a test :) You said your period was due on the 20th - has it begun yet? It's not unusual to get a negative test before your period is due. Even some of the sensitive tests won't pick up pregnancy hormones (HCG) until after your period is already late.

When the baby first starts growing, he or she is deep down inside your pelvis, so you don't usually see your tummy sticking out right away. Bloating, similar to your period is possible, but usually you see only gradual rounding just around your bikini line. The baby rises up out of your pelvis around the end of the first trimester, and many women don't "show" until they are six months along or more (of course, others show much more quickly!)

The baby is very, very, VERY small at first - and any movements made by the baby are just impossible to feel. Some women begin to feel movements around the start of the second trimester, but it's far more common to start feeling the baby in the middle to end of the second trimester.

Some women do notice more gas when early pregnant, though.

If your period hasn't started, I would recommend that you try another test - and if it still doesn't start you may want to ask your doctor for a blood test.

In the meantime, you can take care of yourself now as if you were pregnant already. Take a look at my healthy pregnancy articles.

If you're not pregnant, but don't feel you're ready for a baby, it's probably a safer bet for you and your boyfriend to use a condom. Guys are known to not quite pull out in time... and there are a lot of kiddos running around from that method ;)

Best of luck to you and let me know if I can help with anything else!
