I'm 29 Weeks, Vagina Hurts

by Kristen

My vagina hurts every once in a while the pain comes and goes. What does that mean? The baby is above the placenta too. Is the pain a bad thing or good thing? And I haven't made love in a while so I know its not from that. Just please help me.

Answer:

Hi Kristen,

Sometimes aching or even sharp pains in the vagina can be normal during pregnancy. The baby may be pushing down and that pressure causes an ache. Sometimes the baby will sit over a nerve that sends a shooting or pinching pain down - the vagina, the thighs, and the legs can all experience this pain.

Usually such pains are normal and go away. However, if they're coming regularly or you're very worried I'd advise that you call your midwife or doctor. Sometimes pain can indicate premature labor and it's better to go in and make sure things look good.

Your midwife or doctor may also help you find out if it's a pinched nerve. If this is the case a chiropractor with experience caring for pregnant women may help you.

Best of luck to you.

Don't worry
by: Jenn B

It may be different for you but I am 29 weeks and my vagay hurts too, especially the pubic bone/ pelvic bone almost as if it is bruised and it hurts mostly at night when I have to change sides. I saw my doctor and she said that it is very normal, it's your body starting to get ready for birth. The bones are expanding and thinning getting elasticity.. So don't worry... Other pregnant women told me it gets a bit worse unfortunately for some, hopefully it won't because it hurts enough as it is now...

Good luck with the remainder of your pregnancy!! Enjoy :)
