Lots of Pressure Low in My Stomach During Pregnancy

by Tracie
(Chicago)

I am 31 weeks and my baby seems to stay at the bottom of my stomach. It feels funny because every time I get up to walk I feel a lot of pressure in the bottom of my stomach.

Is this normal?

Answer:

Hi Tracie,

Feeling a lot of downward pressure at the bottom of your stomach is normal in later pregnancy. The feeling tends to start right about where you are in pregnancy.

Your baby is most likely head down and his or her head is a little lower in your pelvis, though baby probably won't engage until the last couple of weeks of pregnancy. But once your baby shifts to head down position it's common to feel more pressure at the bottom of your belly.

If you're concerned you should always call your care provider, but it is a normal experience.

Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy!
