My dr. was great there was never any pressure to induce me so I was able to go 41 weeks without feeling any pressure that I was going to have to have a c-section because he was going to be too big and such.
I prepped myself by reading up on others natural birthing experience. I used low toned vocalization through most of the labor and concentrated on my breathing through the pushing. I had a natural 6 hour labor with my daughter and knew I wanted a natural labor with him. Being prepared and knowing what you want in your head is, I think, one of the best ways to be able to have a natural birth. If I went in with a doubt that I would be able to have a natual birth, I don't think I would have made it, but I went in determined to have one if I could (I know some things make it not possible).
Though she was only 6 lbs 9 oz and born at 38.5 weeks. We were guessing him to be a healthy 8 lbs baby since he was coming later. Nobody would have guessed him to be nearly 10lbs! I have had several people tell me that I should have had a c-section because he was so big. But I can now say I naturally birthed a 10 lbs healthy baby (and I am by no means a big person, prepregnancy 5'2" and 145 lbs).
