Position after the 33rd week.

My wife has completed her 33rd week of pregnancy. As per the last ultrasound report the baby has already in the vertex position. I just want to know whether it is normal and also what will be the expected time after which delivery will take place.

Answer:

Hi Anirban,

It is normal for your baby to be in the vertex position. In fact, that's a very good thing :) Babies usually turn to the head-down position around the end of the second trimester or early in the third trimester. It's completely normal.

Your baby moving into the vertex position doesn't do much to predict when he or she will be born, however. Some babies turn head down very early, but they arrive past their due dates. Some turn late in pregnancy and then arrive right after, a little early. The only real way to know when labor will start and you'll meet your baby is to wait until your wife feels labor beginning.
