Pre-pregnancy Question

by Marilyn

Hi! I've had some trouble with having a regular period since I got off birth control back in July.

I'm finally back on track and want to try hard to have a baby. However, I'd like to do a healthy cleanse beforehand. What are your healthy recommendations???

Thanks,
Marilyn

Hi Marilyn,

I think doing a preconception cleanse is a good idea. From my study, it's best to do the cleanse at least three months before you're actively going to try to conceive. Do the cleanse, then spend the next couple of months working intensely to build your body back up (via nutrition and supplements).

You can do a juice fast relatively easily and inexpensively. You need to choose your juices wisely (vegetable juices are better than sugary fruit juices and should be the main juices).

While on the cleanse you may have "detox" symptoms which tend to be flu-like. These will pass and you'll feel better after the cleanse, when your body has rid itself of build-up.

The best directions I've found for juice cleansing specific to preconception are in Pregnancy Miracle.

You can probably also safely follow juice cleansing protocols from elsewhere.

If you want a more comprehensive choice I think the better solution is to use a cleanse designed for preconception issues. Fertility Specialist and Master Herbalist Hethir Rodriguez offers a fertility cleanse she has designed - and she offers extensive instructions with it. She is a real expert on fertility and you'll benefit from her cleanse.

If you think you may be pregnant, don't cleanse. But it's safe to do so before you get pregnant :)

Once you've completed your cleanse I suggest you focus strongly on your nutrition. I've written a lot about preconception nutrition on Natural Birth and Baby Care's sister site:
