The Pink Kit

Q & A Guidelines

I receive a number of questions every week, many of them very similar. Here's some information on what kinds of questions I will and will not answer:

"Am I/Could I be Pregnant?": If you have had sex, there is a chance you are pregnant. I can't tell if you are or not! Please take a test or see your doctor or midwife and have her do a test for you. If you're getting negative tests, please read this question and its replies.

Please do not make statements. Ask me a question that makes sense. If you make a statement, I don't know what you need. If your question doesn't make sense, I can't answer it.

"Is it Safe to Have Sex?": If you have sex, you could possibly get pregnant. Period. Please don't ask me if certain dates or times in your cycle are safe for having sex. I don't give advice on dates or on birth control methods!

Miscarriage / Bleeding Questions: if this requires an immediate response, please call your doctor or midwife, or go to the Emergency Room! I answer questions a couple of times a week, so I may not get to your question quickly. Please see this page on bleeding during pregnancy and this page on stopping miscarriage

Questions Clearly Addressed on the Site: This website is extensive and I have covered many topics in detail (for example, vaginal birth vs. c-section). If you can't find an answer to your question or have a special situation, feel free to ask me for advice.

Highly Technical Questions on Prenatal Tests: If you have questions about high level ultrasounds, amniocentesis results, etc. you need to address them to your care provider. I am not a doctor, midwife, lab or ultrasound technician. I offer advise as a mother and childbirth advocate. My advice is NOT medical advise and I am not qualified for these types of questions.

Breast Issues: If you are seeing liquid come from your breasts during pregnancy, this is normal! You begin to produce colostrum during pregnancy and will often leak small amounts of it.

"Am I in Labor?" : Again, I answer questions on the site a couple of times a week, so I may not see your labor question until after you have had your baby! If you're not sure if you're in labor or not, please find something to do -- go to sleep if it's night, and find an activity to occupy yourself if it's daytime. Believe me, you will know if it's "the real thing," and it's best just to calmly occupy yourself until it's obvious :)
