Sex During Pregnancy Safe?

(Ahemdabad)

Is sperm going inside body during the 1st trimester harmful? Is it safe to have sex?

Answer:

Hi Ahemdabad,

Don't worry - sex during pregnancy is safe. During pregnancy the cervix forms a thick plug of mucus that seals up the opening. No sperm are able to get through and the womb stays safe for the baby.

Unless a doctor has advised against having sex due to recurrent miscarriage, or the water has broken at the end of pregnancy, it's safe to have sex from the day of conception all the way up to the baby's birth.
