Three Negative Tests But I am Certain I'm Pregnant!
by Emma
I know that doctors have the science to back up their claims but I am the expert on my body.
My first indication that something was different was exactly two weeks ago.
I fainted for the first time ever (granted it was after seeing my fiancée after a wisdom tooth surgery). I've always been able to stomach that sort of thing. It took me over a week to recover, and I kept feeling nauseous and lightheaded throughout the day.
Then I started cramping up a little like I would with my period coming (which was due 1/20). On the 19th I was convinced I'd just gotten my period and I rushed to the bathroom but nothing!
Then over the course of the week my nipples got extremely sensitive (it hurt to face the shower!) and my stomach got extremely bloated. I also got acne on my back, had a random leg cramp in the middle of the night, and had the sudden need to shave every day instead of once a week because my hair kept growing!
I also look more swollen in my private area and my sense of smell got so sensitive it's getting to be overwhelming! I also eat twice as much as I used to. I have a very little body and haven't gained or lost weight in over 8 years and I've always only needed a little bit of something to affect me (hormones, medication, etc.) My period is about 5 days late now and never has been since I got it for the first time.
I called my doctor's office and the nurse said it would be impossible to tell at this point and there is no way I'd be having any symptoms. I took three home pregnancy tests and they were all negative. I'm getting a blood test done but I have a feeling it'll be negative. I'm convinced I'm pregnant though since my body's never done this before!
Is there any way I could be pregnant even if it can't be officially confirmed?
Answer:
Hi Emma,
Well your symptoms certainly sound like early pregnancy symptoms to me. Lots of women have symptoms quickly and just after conception. It's really a myth that it's "too early" to have symptoms.
It's also possible to get negative tests (even three of them) and still be pregnant. It's possible your body just isn't producing enough hormone for the test to show positive yet.
There are also women who go through an entire pregnancy and the test is never positive!
I'd say trust your intuition and test again in a few days. You can always request a blood test from the doctor's office as well. If you are pregnant, time will tell better than any test!
