What Does Baby do In the Womb?

by Edmund
(Birmingham, AL)

My wife and I are about five months pregnant. She has a little high bump. I'm wondering what the baby does inside the stomach? And, does she know who I am when I'm rubbing the stomach? We hope it's a girl.

Answer:

Hi Edmund,

Babies spend most of their time in the womb just growing. There's a whole lot going on in there as they get built up from one cell to a whole baby.

They also "practice" breathing and swallowing and their digestive system works on some levels.

If you keep rubbing on your wife's stomach and talking to your little one, she will learn who you are. When she's born she will know you! She will feel most comfortable with you and with your wife - and she'll know you two over everybody else!

Enjoy the rest of the pregnancy and getting to know your little one!
