What is it Like to Experience Natural Birth?

I would like to know about the experience of natural birth. I had twins, but I had a c-section, so I never really got a chance to experience natural birth.

It's hard to describe just exactly what the experience of natural birth is.

At first it's exciting and almost unreal, the baby is finally coming.

Then comes a lot of hard work and perhaps pain. It's intense and requires focus.

At the same time it's exhilarating and empowering. Some women describe feeling like they're tuned into the whole universe, or with all the other women giving birth, or who have given birth throughout time.

For me birth has been a time of intense inward focus - of going into myself and really concentrating and working hard. At the same time I always felt like time had stopped and I was on a different level of being.

And always there's the sheer physical effort and the elation that follows as you hold your baby and hormones flood your body giving you an amazing natural high.

I think the best way to get a sense of birth is to read the stories of other women who have experienced natural birth. I've got tons of stories from women who have given birth naturally at home, at birth centers, at hospitals, and even unassisted. Read them and enjoy!
