What to Be Careful of While Trying to Get Pregnant?
I'm 27 years old and want to get pregnant. We've tried for 3 months during my ovulation times but have not gotten pregnant yet. I usually ride my bike - could that be stopping me from getting pregnant? What else should I be careful of?
Answer:
Riding a bike isn't going to stop you from getting pregnant - or if it will, it's very rare. If you're riding for many, many, many miles every day and your periods are very irregular or non-existent, you may want to cut back on riding.
Since you said you've been trying during ovulation, however, it sounds like you're having normal menstrual cycles.
Lots of strenuous exercise or harsh dieting can cause problems when you're trying to get pregnant, but regular levels of exercise, including biking, are not harmful and won't stop you from conceiving.
If you're certain about your ovulation timing, it's a good idea to keep trying for a few more months. Most couples will conceive within about a year of trying. If you're charting and can pinpoint ovulation each month, you may want to get a fertility workup starting when you've been trying for six months.
Otherwise, avoid drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, etc - anything unhealthy for you is unhealthy for baby.
Work hard on your diet, because your nutrition is very important. I have written a lot of articles on foods for getting pregnant here:
