When is the Right Time to Conceive in My Cycle?

by Marjorie Domingo

My husband and I want to have a baby after losing our first child many years ago. How many days after the menstrual flow begins is the best time to conceive?

Answer:

Hi Marjorie,

The best time to get pregnant tends to be about 14 days before your period starts - rather than being based on timing after it has already started. A "textbook" cycle is about 28 days with ovulation occuring around day 14.

In reality, some women ovulate on day 12, others on day 18, and all around and in between! Cycle lengths vary from woman to woman. The best way to determine when you ovulate (release an egg that your husband's sperm can fertilize) is to learn your own fertility signs.

NBBC's sister site, Getting-Pregnant.com has an extensive section of menstrual cycle basics and basics for trying to conceive that should help you identify when you are most likely to get pregnant during your cycle!

Best of luck to you and your husband.
