HypnoBirthing Home Course or HypnoBirthing Classes – Which is Better?

by Christy (Va)

I am very interested in Hypnobirthing and was wondering which would be a better route to go… Hypnobirthing home course or the Hypnobirthing classes that meet?

Also, I have heard of Hypnobirthing and Hypnobabies.. what is the difference?

Thanks,
Christy

Answer:

Hi Christy,

Hypnobirthing and Hypnobabies are two different methods. Both are based on hypnosis for childbirth, but there are differences.

I have not looked into Hypnobirthing in depth because I was so pleased with Hypnobabies, so I'm not absolutely sure what the differences are.

I do know that if you want a home study option, Hypnobabies is the best way to go. Hypnobirthing has a book, which you can buy at the bookstore, but it's not structured to be a stand-alone course. Hypnobabies is made to be a complete at-home childbirth course. It comes with a workbook and many, many cd's. You can read more about what it comes with in my full review.

Hypnobabies Course Review

As for the choice between a home course and taking an actual class… I'll admit that I may be a little biased, because I really am kind of shy and prefer to just be home with my family. So I will always pick a home study course where I don't have to get out and be forced into a classroom situation.

However, there can be some benefits to a class situation. If you like meeting new people, it could be a good idea. You may also meet some moms who could become friends – and your babies will be close in age.

Some women also really like the instructor motivation. If you're more motivated with a teacher than you are with self-study, a class could be a good idea.

You'll also be able to ask your teacher questions. Though this is not quite as big of a deal with Hypnobabies – the Home Study course has a very, very active email list and the author of Hypnobabies is very active. If you have any questions you'll get a prompt, helpful reply.

So my perspective, just based on my personal preference – is that the home study course, where you can go at your own pace, and in the comfort and privacy of your own home is the way to go. You weigh the options and decide what's best for you!
