I am 39 Weeks Pregnant and Baby is in ROL Position – Worried!

by Claire (UK)

I have been told this makes a normal delivery difficult and leads to problems. Any advice?? I am very worried

This is my 1st pregnancy, I've been complicated with hyperemesis and borderline diabetes, now told this position results in complications for labour!!

Help!

Answer:

Hi Claire,

Your baby isn't in a terrible position and still has the ability to move around. Even with your baby in this position, you can have a normal, successful delivery.

I would recommend that you don't recline. So no leaning back in the chair. Sit up straight. Sitting on a birth ball is a very good idea, too.

Or kneel on your hands and knees, letting your baby hang down. You can prop some pillows in front of you to lean onto as well. Try and lean forward as much as you can to encourage baby to be in a good position.

Walking and swimming are also good ways to encourage your baby to be in an optimal position.
