I Get To Be The One

Have you ever heard a song that just makes you smile whenever you hear it? A simple song that’s so packed with meaning that it makes you cry?

I talk frequently about oxytocin in my online birthing classes (and I really emphasized it in my class on induction!) Boosting your oxytocin levels during pregnancy has been shown to have incredibly positive impacts on your pregnancy, your unborn baby, and your life.

Why mention this now? Listening to this song is like an infusion of oxytocin – the good kind!

I love most songs written for unborn and new babies, but J.J. Heller’s I Get To Be The One is probably the sweetest I’ve ever heard. The lyrics are precious, and perfect for singing to your unborn baby. They’re also very simple, as is the melody – you can easily memorize this and sing it over and over again <3

Research shows that if you sing your baby the same song over and over while s/he is in the womb, that song is very calming after birth. This is a perfect choice.

In addition, I have found this song helps me tremendously during parenting. When I listen to it, I think about each one of my children – when I was pregnant with them, when they were babies, and even all the hopes and dreams I have for them as I watch them grow.

When parenting feels hard, or even frustrating (because sometimes it does), the lyrics of this song echo through my head – it reminds me how incredibly grateful I am that I get to be the one to help them grow… to watch them crawl, walk, run… to watch them fly.

That’s a blessing

Enjoy!

Here are the lyrics:

Well hello.
Little Baby.
Your eyes have never seen the sun
You should know
Little baby
That I am the lucky one

I get to be the one to hold your hand
I get to be the one.
Through birthdays and broken bones
Ill be there to watch you grow
I get to be the one.

Don’t feel alone now.
Little baby.
Do you hear me singing you a song
I can’t wait to show you
Little baby
How to crawl
How to walk
How to run

I get to be the one to hold your hand
I get to be the one.
Through birthdays and broken bones
I’ll be there to watch you grow
I get to be the one.

How does someone so small
Hold my heart so tightly
I don’t even know you
I love you completely

I get to be the one to hold your hand
I get to be the one.
Through birthdays and broken bones
I’ll be there to watch you grow
I get to be the one.

I get to be the one to hold your hand
I get to be the one.
Through birthdays and broken bones
I’ll be there to watch you grow
I get to be the one.

I get to be!
